Respect Cardiff’s Cemeteries

We, the undersigned residents, families, and community members, are deeply concerned about the current state of neglect in cemeteries across Cardiff.

These burial grounds are places of remembrance, respect, and heritage. Unfortunately, many grave sites and surrounding areas have been left in poor condition due to overgrown vegetation, broken paths, insufficient maintenance, and a general lack of care. This is distressing to grieving families, disrespectful to those laid to rest, and detrimental to the community’s shared history and well-being.

We urge Cardiff Council to:

  1. Conduct a full inspection and public report on the condition of Cardiff cemeteries.

  2. Allocate additional funding and staffing for the regular maintenance of these sites.

  3. Implement a long-term care and improvement plan in consultation with local communities

Our cemeteries deserve to be treated with the dignity and respect owed to those who rest there and the families who visit them. These are not only burial sites but also historical landmarks and green spaces that enrich the character of our city.

We call on Cardiff Council to act immediately to restore, maintain, and protect Cardiff’s cemeteries
